It is my pleasure to welcome you at the university that is your seat of professional learning and developing scholarly activities. Our faculty is looking forward enthusiastically to give their best to your higher learning. Lest we forget our capability to activate the indomitable human mind residing within us that has given us a sagacious and charitable view of life along with progress, economic, technological and material. Ancient Asian scientists have contributed from sugar cane, the making of camphor and dyes like aniline and indigo. There are many such instances in virtually all fields. Be it engineering, architecture, production technology, physics, medical sciences, mathematics, logic, astronomy or be if shipbuilding, navigation, the fine arts, and so on, the world owes to the genius of Asian and Middle Eastern scientists and inventors. You are descendants of these geniuses. The world today is divided into two groups based on technological advances, the East and the West. The West sets the global pace of science and technology, and has monopolized the information technology. Asia is struggling to attain self-sufficiency and self-reliance in technology in this millennium. The main cause of this gap between the East and the West is traditional life style in Asia. Unlike the West, in Asia, we attached importance to empirical research rather than theoretical research, resulting in the development of technology but not any systematic or theoretical methods. The Muslims suffered a major set back in the advancement of scientific knowledge after colonization in the 17th Century. The colonial masters stole their knowledge and erased the names of inventors from historical archives of science. After the Second World War, Asia was liberated from the clutches of colonization. The importance of science and technology to the process of rapid industrialization has been fully recognized in Bangladesh. Our university is a leading institution in the nation to invest in trained skilled manpower for our future. Investment in science and technology has increased markedly over the years. We should promote a "technology-first" policy so the science and technology may lead our economic growth. Similar policies were introduced in Korea, China and Japan. As a result, we observe an elevation of technological level and boosting of the nation's competitive edge in the international market by turning out products and material far superior to the Western world. We shall facilitate your progress in management sciences and other disciplines during your stay at the university. My doors are always open for you to discuss your professional and academic plan. Remember! We have a reputation as a nation of intellectuals and scholars in the World community. |
