I feel honored to serve on the Board of Governors of State University of Bangladesh since her inception in 2002. As I recall, we held numerous meetings to shape up the programs to impart professional and skilled training programs to the future leaders of Bangladesh. We felt an acute deficiency of quality of trained and skilled personnel in the healthcare industry in Bangladesh. Looking back the four year journey with the passage of time, I am encouraged to observe the maturity of SUB faculty and interaction of students with the community at large. SUB has grown as a unique institution to provide quality education in all sectors. Three disciplines, namely, School of Health Sciences, Business and Social Studies and Science & Technology are providing quality training and constantly evolving as leaders in the comity of education. There is a major thrust at the core of education on needs based research and development for articulating new information in the curricula. That what makes SUB stand out in the private sector of education in Bangladesh.
SUB administration and faculty have further taken upon the challenge of globalization of scholastic activities. The Memorandums of Understanding and Bilateral Agreements have been signed with universities and international organizations to the benefit of human development and capacity building in Bangladesh. Thee university held a major international conference in February, 2006 in partnership with McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. The conference was attended by 38 country representatives and was partially funded by USAID and CIDA. The theme of the conference was the impact of global issues on women and children.
The university has positioned itself to cater the needs of neighboring countries by providing education to their students, government officials and graduates. The students from Bhutan, Nepal, China and Pakistan are attending various programs. The faculty caters the needs of these international students on individual basis, hence, interaction with these students provides our faculty international understanding of cultures and needs in the region. There is no doubt that SUB is a progressive institution in the region. The university banks heavily on the international faculty and advisors for placements of graduates. They provide us guidelines and suggestions to incorporate international licensing requirements in our core curriculum. The university is sensitive for securing employment and placement opportunities both at home and abroad. We monitor constantly the changes in trends of job market.
The component of morality and ethical behavior has been incorporated in our training programs. A good citizen with an edge in knowledge and quality training is our ultimate goal at the university.
I have all the respect and admiration for the faculty and administration to travel on the path of excellence in education and research in a short period of time. I have no doubt in my mind that SUB will consistently and continuously provide the best education and quality training to the students. In the core of all these pursuits are faculty and scholars to take SUB to the international level.
As the Vice President of the Board o Governors, I profoundly welcome you join SUB in pursuit of your career and high quality education. The knowledge and technology based education is needed to meet the challenges of ever evolving and emerging international competition. Come join us to meet, greet and defeat these challenges through excellence in education and research.
