The B.Sc in Nursing degree course of the State University of Bangladesh has been designed for students to acquire sufficient knowledge and skills on the principles and practices of nursing science and gain clinical experiences in many areas of nursing. It will provide insight where students may prefer to practice after graduation. The graduates will be valued as caring members of the health care team and will provide high standard of services home and abroad.

Philosophy

The department of Nursing of the school of Heath Sciences believes that a stimulating and progressive student centered learning environment will be helpful for the personal growth and development of learners and to develop their professional competencies required for knowledge base nursing practice. Again learning is best achieved when students have a strong willingness to learn, where students are considered as unique human being.

Goal

The learner who completes the B.Sc. in Nursing program of State University of Bangladesh will be a capable and competent nurse who has the ability of using competency based knowledge in providing client centered holistic nursing care independently for fulfilling the needs to promote, maintain and restore the health of individuals, families and communities nationally and internationally.

Objectives

The objectives of the program is to prepare a graduate registered nurse who will be able -

A. to be knowledgeable in:

 
i.
Human bioscience, applied science and behavioral science;
ii.
Nursing science emphasize on nursing process, holistic nursing, community-oriented nursing, and knowledge based nursing practice across the life span;
iii.
Professional roles and responsibilities of a nurse in promoting, maintaining and restoring health of the individual, family and community;
iv.
Leadership, management and educational methodology;
v.
National health policy, and health care delivery system;
vi.
Emerging local and global health related issues.

B. to demonstrate skills in :

 
i.
Nurse-client relationship focusing on moral and ethical issues concerning individual as human being;
ii.
Using nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate needs/ expectations/responses to health problems of individuals, families and communities across the life span independently in order to promote, maintain, and restore health;
iii.
Providing client-centered and holistic care;
iv.
Carrying out knowledge-based and community-oriented nursing practice with positive attitudes and accountability in accordance with the professional code of conduct;
v.
Working cooperatively and collaboratively in the health team as a member and/or a leader of the nursing care team;
vi.
Critical thinking and decision making.

C. to appreciate oneself as a professional nurse and have positive attitudes towards clients,     society and professional nursing and self-directed life long learning.

Admission requirements

a) Candidate under National Curriculum

SSC or Equivalent. (Science group get preference)
HSC or Equivalent. (Science group get preference)
Minimum second division in both SSC & HSC or CGPA 2.5 in SSC and CGPA 2.0 in HSC
b) Candidate from English Medium School
O-LEVEL: 5 courses with minimum CGPA 2.0
A-LEVEL: 2 courses with minimum CGPA 2.0 (Science group get preference)
c) Candidate from Diploma in Nursing Science including Diploma in Midwifery or equivalent courses.

d) A candidate before admission will submit to the Principal / Head of the institute / department a certificate of Medical fitness from an authorized Medical officer that the candidate in physically and mentally fit to undergo the academic course and does not suffer from any disability or contagious diseases.

Age limit for Admission:

Minimum age 17 years at the time of admission.
No age bar for the Diploma Nurses.
